Bison Close Road Swing At Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Howard women's basketball team will wrap up its season-opening seven-game road trip when it takes on Robert Morris on Sunday, Dec. 4. Tipoff is at 1 p.m. in the Charles L. Sewall Center.

SERIES VS. ROBERT MORRIS

Sunday's game will be the second time in program history that the Bison and Colonials have faced off. In the inaugural meeting in 2008, Howard dropped a 64-54 decision to RMU at The Chuck. Zykia Brown scored a team-high 19 points in the loss.

LAST TIME OUT

The Bison have played a tough non-conference slate early on in the season, taking a 1-5 record into December. Luckily, Howard was able to turn things around on Wednesday night by defeating St. Francis Brooklyn, 78-63. The Bison shot a season-high 42.9 percent (30-70) from the floor.

Four players tallied double figures in the victory, led by redshirt senior Te'Shya Heslip with a game-best 19 points combined with eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Redshirt junior Erin Blaine added 16 points, while senior Sydni Johnson poured in 13 points, four boards and four assists. Freshman Imani Bryant posted career highs on 14 points and 11 rebounds. She also made 7-of-8 field goals and three rejections.

SCOUTING THE COLONIALS

RMU brings a 3-5 record into the game after suffering a tough 59-57 loss to Delaware on Thursday. The Colonials led the outing for 36 minutes, but a late push by the Blue Hens was too much for the visitors to withstand. Robert Morris had three player in double digits, paced by Rebeca Navarro with 17 points. Megan Smith has guided the Colonials offense by averaging 13.8 points while adding 8.1 rebounds.

DOUBLE TROUBLE

Rookies Jayla Myles and Bryant are the first two Bison to record double-doubles this season. Myles got the job done against Cornell when she put up career marks on 13 points and 15 rebounds. Bryant dropped a career-high 14 points and pulled down 11 boards for her first double-double in a Howard uniform against St. Francis (N.Y.).

BUCKETS ON BUCKETS

Heslip continues to be Howard's top offensive threat through six games, averaging team highs in points (18.7) and assists (4.2) while shooting 46.2 percent (12-26) from beyond the arc and 78.8 percent (26-33) at the free throw line. She has led the team in scoring and put up 10-plus points in every game.

CHARITY STRIPE LIVING

The Bison have done a good job of making trips to the free throw stripe count. Howard is converting free throws at a 69.4 percent rate, making 84 of 121 attempts. The mark currently stands second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
