LOYOLA, Md. – The Howard men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Loyola (Md.) in a non-conference meet on Saturday afternoon.
The men's team was downed, 103-90, which moved its record to 2-3 in dual meets. The women's team was setback by a score of 101-90 and is now 1-4 in dual meets this season.
TJ Miller took home wins in the 50 freestyle (21.91) and 100 freestyle (47.61). Nicholas Haughton finished the 500 freestyle in 5:05.01 for a victory, followed by Jonathan Hill in second (5:30.13). Howard claimed the top three spots in the 200 breaststroke. Xavier Philips touched the wall in 2:17.37 to win the race, while MenSa Eggleston (2:28.12) and Justice Brown-Duso (2:50.57) rounded out the trio.
With a time of 1:29.64, Alexander Barnes, Mark McCluskey, Farion Cooper and Don Brazelton clinched a victory in the 200 freestyle relay.
Cooper now stands second in Howard's top times for the 100 IM thanks to a 56.29 performance. Brown-Duso is fifth with a time of 1:08.62.
Leanne McMaster won the 50 freestyle in a time of 25.48. Danielle Brown touched the wall in 5:34.92 to claim the 500 freestyle, while Kayla Walker was second in 5:51.63. The Bison swept the 200 breaststroke, led by Latroya Pina, who swam the race in 2:33.40. Akesha Minnifee-Cox placed second (2:35.21) and Miikella Henry was third (3:06.77).
Susanna Reese, KaSandra Kapland, McMaster and Brown joined together to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:42.08, beating out Loyola by a hundredth of a second (1:42.09).
Minnifee-Cox moved into fourth in Howard's record books by swimming the 100 IM in 1:05.75.
The Bison will be at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by Randolph-Macon, on Friday, Dec. 2 through Saturday, Dec. 3.
