Washington, DC---The Howard football team will face its stiffest conference test of the season when it hosts North Carolina A&T State University on Saturday at 1 pm in Greene Stadium. It will be homecoming for the Bison. The game will be webcast on www.whbc963hd3.com with Trevin Jones and Michael Lindo calling all the action.
In the Aggies (5-1, 3-0 in the MEAC), the Bison will be playing the team that is arguably Number 1 in Black college football. NC A&T is ranked number 13 nationally in the FCS poll and is a consensus Number 1 in the black college polls.
The Aggies feature the most dominant and exciting player in Black college football in senior Tarik Cohen. Cohen has already broken the all-time MEAC rushing record and is ranked second in the FCS with almost 1,000 yards through six games. He is coming off his third straight 200-plus yard game and he is on track to reach the 1,000 yard mark for the fourth time in his career.
But the the Aggies are balanced on offense and have been equally effective in the pass game. The Bison, who are coming off their best defensive effort of the season, will be tested by the high-powered NC A&T offense that averages 40 points and over 400 yards of offense per game.
""He is a dynamic player," praised Howard head coach Gary Harrell of Cohen. "He poses such a threat. He is small but he is strong, he is elusive and he has speed. We will have to be very disciplined and not allow him to take over the game."
Harrell continued. "They are balanced on offense and have had success in the passing game as well. This homecoming game is like our Super Bowl. We will have to play well."
The Bison (1-6, 1-3 in the MEAC) will again depend on the talents of running back Anthony Philyaw, who ranks second in the conference in rushing and fifth overall in the nation in the FCS.
"He appears to be a physical running back," said NC A&T Coach Rod Broadway. "He is adownhill runner who has power and the ability to make people miss. He is a real key to their success on offense."
