WASHINGTON (July 30, 2026) - Jordan Green is a classic example of the blueprint for carving a path to career goals by being aggressive and taking advantage of opportunities. Green just competed her studies at Howard University in May, receiving her degree in health sciences.
 
A native of Staten Island, N.Y., Green came to Howard and signed up to work with the Howard Department of Athletics under Collin Francis, the Associate Athletic Director for Student Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance.
 
An athlete during her high school career, Green's path was set following experiences in high school when a student athlete died from heat exhaustion.
 
"I did not have the benefits of having a trainer when I was a student-athlete," said Green. "So, when that athlete died, I knew what I wanted to study."
 
When Green started classes, she wasted no time preparing for her career and her enthusiasm did not go unnoticed by Francis.
 
"From the time she came to Howard, she was focused," Francis recalled. "She worked primarily with the football team and she was always looking to grow and learn more about the profession by volunteering when the opportunities presented themselves. She always asked questions and grew over time to take on other duties, including the football team."
 
With all the experience under her belt, Green found out about an internship program that was just what the doctor order to take her career to the next level.

"I found the Korey Stringer Institute (KSI) online and applied for an internship," said Green. "It is very hands on and valuable to get this kind of training and exposure. I have learned so much and it is a great honor to receive this internship."
 
In April 2010, the KSI was started following the death of former Minesota Vikings offensive lineman Korey Stringer, who passed away in 2001 from exertional heat exhaustion.
 
KSI's aim to provide cutting-edge research in the areas of heat and hydration, injury prevention and strength and conditioning to make a difference for athletes, laborers and warfighters everywhere.
 
"This is a great opportunity for Jordan," Francis continued. "She has the perfect mindset and this will help her growth in the profession. We are so very proud of her."
 
Green's internship ends Friday (July 31).
 
Following the internship, Green plans to attend Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, pursuing a graduate degree in athletic training.
 
Green has helped elevate the status of the program, attracting students interested in athletic training.
 
Francis has seen the number of student assistants increase dramatic since his arrival in 2023 from 10 students in year one to 70 students already signed up for the upcoming school year.
 
"The athletic training program has really grown," Francis stated. "To have Jordan take advantage of this opportunity certainly helps the profile of the program."
 
Green becomes the first student from Howard and an HBCU to receive this internship.
 
"It means a lot to be able to represent Howard University and HBCUs in this area," noted Green. "Hopefully, it opens a door for future Howard and HBCU students."
