WASHINGTON (July 29, 2026) – Stats Perform uncovered its third annual HBCU+ FCS National Player of the Year Award Preseason Watch List where Howard University saw graduates defensive back Kedrick Green (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and running back Eden James (Indianapolis) among the 20 recipients. The announcement came Wednesday morning.
 
On July 20, both Bison were named to the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Preseason All-Conference First Team.
 
A year ago, Green had a breakout season with 60 total tackles (44 solos), including 3.5 tackles for loss, two INTs and a blocked kick.
 
Last season, James played in only two games due to injuries. In his collegiate career, the Indy native has almost 1,500 yards rushing for 5.0 yards per carry.
 
The Stats Perform HBCU National Player of the Year Award honors the outstanding player from the 21 HBCU programs of the NCAA Division I subdivision in the MEAC, Southwestern Athletic (SWAC), CAA (Coastal Athletic Association) Football and OVC (Ohio Valley Conference)-Big South conferences.
 
A national panel involving HBCU/FCS coverage will select the award winner after the regular season. All positions are eligible for the award and the recipient will be announced December.
 
On Aug. 29, HU takes on Alabama A&M in the annual MEAC/SWAC Challenge in Atlanta, live on ABC.
