Box Score 3 WASHINGTON, DC --- The Howard softball team hosted rival Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opponent Hampton University this weekend while also celebrating the team's two seniors, Briana Banks and Jenny Ly, who were playing in their final home series in the District.
Howard (12-23, 6-6 MEAC) split the their Saturdaydoubleheader with Hampton (14-18, 6-2 MEAC) before losing the home finale on Sunday.
APRIL 11HOWARD 0, HAMPTON 2Â HU struggled to produce hits as it was shut out for only the fifth time all season. Junior
Janessa Flynn struck out three batters and only gave up one walk but accounted for all eight of Hampton's hits, including a second inning solo home run and a fifth inning RBI single.Â
HOWARD 8, HAMPTON 1Hampton struck first in the top of the first after a Lady Pirates single and a Howard error put the first run of the game on the board. However, Howard would put together an eight run fourth innings that saw the Lady Bison record eight hits - including three doubles - in 13 at-bats.
The three two-base hits came off the bats of each Howard player that knocked in two RBIs in the inning - juniors
Al'Asia Davis &
Dominique Lawrence and redshirt junior
Jasmine Gammons. The other RBIs were driven in by sophomores
Imani Ballard and
Alex Flynn.
Davis led the way with an overall 3-for-4 day at the plate while Flynn helped her own pitching cause by going 2-for-4.Â
APRIL 12HOWARD 0, HAMPTON 10The Lady Bison were unable to use their big finish to Saturday's game as momentum for Sunday as the Lady Pirates scored seven runs in the top of the third by reaching base on 10 of 12 at-bats in the inning. Despite the setback, Ballard was able to register a multi-hit game as the South Bend, IN native went 2-for-3 and accounted for a third of Howard's hits.
NEXT UP: Howard will play its final two MEAC series on the road, beginning with a weekend series against Morgan State on April 18 (1 & 3 p.m doubleheader) and April 19 (Noon single game).
