HARRISONBURG, VA --- The Howard men's soccer team rallied from a two-goal second-half deficit to salvage a 2-2 tie in its matchup against the James Madison Dukes on Tuesday evening at JMU University Park.
The Bison (0-10-2) found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-0 score after James Madison (2-6-3) converted a pair of shots in the 50th and 57th minutes. However, Howard would show resilience that should serve them well the rest of the season.
Less than 15 minutes after the Dukes' second score, sophomore defender/midfielder
Isaac Mbappe headed home a free kick from junior midfielder
Xavier Rajpaul for his second goal of the season. Then in the waning minutes of regulation (88'), sophomore forward
Kyle Celestine put home his third goal of the year - and first since the Howard's August 30th game vs George Washington - on a 20 yard shot.
Both teams took four shots during the two scoreless 10-minute overtime periods. The draw gives second-year Howard head coach
Phillip Gyau back-to-back seasons with two ties.
NEXT UPHoward will open Sun Belt Conference play on Saturday, October 10 at Appalachian State. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.
