Bison Look To Remain Undefeated at Home

Washington, DC—The Howard University men's basketball team will be looking to continue its success at home when it hosts Coppin State University at 4 pm in Burr Gymnasium.

The Bison (7-9, 1-1 in the MEAC)  are undefeated in Burr this season at 5-0.  The Eagles (1-14, 0-2 in the MEAC) have yet to win on the road this season.  But Howard coach Kevin Nickelberry is not looking past Coppin State.

"Coppin State is probably the best 1-14 team in the country," said an always cautious Nickelberry. "They have played the 26th hardest schedule in the country and have a lot of veteran leadership.  There have been a lot of games where they were leading early, even in their two league games, but they couldn't sustain their lead.  They are among the top teams in the country in three pointers attempted ."

The Bison's strength has been their defense, especially from beyond the arc where opponents are shooting 29 percent.  That is important to note that in their only meeting, it was some sizzling three-point shooting that proved to be the difference as Coppin State defeated Howard, 86-69.

In its most recent game at Cornell on Thursday, Howard led through most of the first half until allowing the Big red to tie the score at halftime.

From there, the Bison fell behind, battle back to within four before dropping a 70-60 decision.  James "J-Byrd" Daniel, III led the team with 23 and James "JC" Carlton with 22.
