Box Score 2 NEW ORLEANS, LA – The Howard women's volleyball team pulled out a pair of impressive five-set victories in their first day of action at the 2014 Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational, defeating Florida Atlantic University and host Tulane University. The wins brought Howard back to .500 on the season and extended their current win streak to three games.
HOWARD 3, FAU 2Down two sets to one and trailing early in the fourth set, Howard (4-5) rallied to defeat FAU (5-3) in five sets.,Three Lady Bison notched double doubles in the contest, literally doubling the number of times the feat had been accomplished by the team this season (from three to six).
Freshman outside hitter
Khaila Donaldson finished with a game-high 20 kills and 17 digs while sophomore outside hitter
Katherine Broussard logged 10 kills and 14 digs.
Senior middle blocker
Assata Conway blocked 13 attacks to go along with the 11 kills she put down herself.
Conway's 13 blocks established a new school single-game record.,
HOWARD 3, TULANE 2Despite losing some key battles on the stat sheet, the Lady Bison were able to find a way to defeat the host Green Wave in the last match of the evening. Howard (5-5) took sets one and three and conceded sets two and four to Tulane (1-7), paving the way for their second five-set match of the day.
Conway led the Lady Bison with a match-high 22 kills and .588 hitting percentage, both new season benchmarks for the team. Donaldson and Broussard each had 10 kills and Broussard put together another double-double by making 15 digs.
"We grew up a lot [in these games] and became a much more mature team," Howard head coach
Shaun Kupferberg after the team's resilient performances. "We had a great week of practice and are beginning to understand the game at a higher level. FAU and Tulane are high level teams and were a great measuring sticks for where we are in our development."
The team was aided by a large contingent of Howard fans, led by the families of the Lady Bison's four Louisiana natives - Broussard and fellow sophomores

Janaya Hampton and
Morgan Marlbrough. "We had an amazing amount of support from parents and alumni traveling with the team. It was a special experience tonight," said Kupferberg.
Howard will look to sweep the Sugar Bowl Classic at 11 a.m. Eastern time as the Lady Bison face Southeastern Louisiana.
