Softball Downed By Mount St. Mary In Doubleheader

EMMITSBURG, MD --- The Howard softball team traveled to Mount St. Mary's College on Tuesday afternoon and were unable to snap their current losing streak as they fell in doubleheader action to the Mountaineers 12-3 (5 inn.) and 5-0.

Howard's record fell to 1-25 (0-8 MEAC) while Mount St. Mary improved to 15-15-1.

GAME 1: HOWARD 3, MSM 12
The Lady Bison jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a two-out RBI double by senior Ashley Turner. Mount St. Mary would split Howard's lead with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning.

Turner went 1-of-3 with those two RBI, one of the team's six hits in the game.

MSM would tie the game in the third after scoring on a wild pitch by freshman Alex Flynn but HU would take the lead back in the fourth on another RBI double, this time from sophomore Sade Estes.

The Mountaineers' 5th inning would be Howard's undoing. Their 3-2 lead would shift to a 9-3 deficit before Flynn was replaced by sophomore Dominique Lawrence. A bases clearing RBI double allowed from Lawrence ended the game by run rule.

GAME 2: HOWARD 0, MSM 5
Flynn pitched the second game of the doubleheader and struck out four but allowed all five of the Mountaineers' runs.

Three Howard players went 1-of-3 from the plate - freshman Imani Ballard, and juniors Jenny Ly & Briana Banks. Turner went 1-of-2 in the second game.
