This weekend, the Howard softball and women's lacrosse teams completed their seasons with two days of conference games over the weekend.
SOFTBALL SWEPT BY DELAWARE STATE IN SEASON FINALEWASHINGTON, DC --- In the final series of the 2014 season, the Howard softball team was unable to earn a victory as the Lady Bison were swept by the visiting Delaware State Lady Hornets in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) action.
The Lady Bison struggled in their three games, losing both games of Saturday's doubleheader (10-1 & 11-1) and Sunday's final contest (18-1) in 5 innings. Howard closed the season with an overall record of 4-36 (3-15 MEAC) while DSU finished the set with a 29-15 (12-3 MEAC).
Howard's senior duo of
Ashley Turner and
Anasia Stinson was honored prior to Saturday's opener. Prior to the set with DSU, Turner had played in 149 games and pitched in 49 games for HU while Stinson appeared in 75 contests for Howard.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE DOWNED BY STETSON IN FINAL CONFERENCE GAMEDELAND, FL --- Senior attack
Cynithia Smalls scored four goals in the final game of her collegiate career as the Howard women's lacrosse team dropped its season finale, a 18-8 Atlantic Sun (A-Sun) conference defeat at the hands of Stetson University on Sunday afternoon. The loss came after
Howard dropped a 24-3 decision to league-leading Jacksonville on Friday.
Howard ends the season with a 1-15 (0-5 A-Sun) record while Stetson improved to 2-15 (2-3 A-Sun) and will be the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic Sun Championship tournament next weekend.
Smalls - who ends her career at Howard with a school-record 139 goals after scoring a team-leading 34 this year - scored three second half goals after netting her first point in the latter portion of the first half. All of Smalls' goals were unassisted, including a free position shot.
Junior midfielder
Jaymie Cox and senior midfielder
Courtland Lackey each put in a goal and finished as the second (25) and third (22) leading scorers on the year.
Freshman midfielders
Tianna Clark and
Taylor Spencer also logged points in the game; Clark scored two goals while Spencer set up Clark's first score in the first half.
