WASHINGTON, DC --- Senior attack
Cynithia Smalls had her most complete game of the season but it came in a losing effort as the Howard women's lacrosse team squandered an early three-goal lead before falling to Atlantic Sun foe Kennesaw State, 24-10, on Friday evening at Greene Stadium.
Smalls logged a season-best seven points against KSU - four goals and a season-high three assists - to pace the Lady Bison (1-10, 0-1 A-Sun). Howard also got two goals apiece from junior midfielder
Jaymie Cox & junior attack
Michaela Jupiter and one each from freshman midfielder
Tianna Clark & senior midfielder
Courtland Lackey.
Four different players helped Howard jump out to a 4-1 lead five minutes into the first half (25:14) but Kennesaw would tie at 4-4 the game within the next three minutes (22:15).
Both teams traded scores until the game was knotted at 7-7 with 5:49 left in the half. KSU would add a pair of goals to close the period and take a 9-7 lead into the locker room.
Howard's undoing would come in the second half as the team allowed the Owls to run off a 10-2 surge to turn that close 9-7 score into a 19-9 advantage.
HU will host their third straight home game on Sunday, April 13 as the Lady Bison welcome fellow A-Sun member University of Detroit Mercy at 1:00 pm.
