NORFOLK, VA --- The Howard softball team was unable to snap its current losing streak on Monday, losing a pair of games against MEAC rival Norfolk State University (13-1 and 18-1) in five innings at the NSU Softball Field.
NSU's sixth and seventh straight victories improved their record to 11-13 (5-0 MEAC) while Howard fell to 1-18 (0-5 MEAC) after the doubleheader losses.
The games were home games for Howard scheduled for this past weekend but were played in Norfolk due to weather conditions.
Three Howard players recorded hits in Game 1, led by sophomore
Sade Estes, who went 1-of-2 at the plate with the Lady Bison's lone RBI. Sophomore
Jasmine Gammons, HU's third leading hitter (min. 10 AB), went 1-of-2 while freshman
Alex Flynn went 1-of-3.
Flynn would be the only Lady Bison to record hits in both games after she matched her 1-of-3 output in Game 2. Flynn was one of five players to get hits along with junior
Briana Banks (1-of-2), senior
Ashley Turner (1-of-2), junior
Jenny Ly (1-of-2) and freshman
Imani Ballard (1-of-3). Ballard drove in Howard's lone run in the second inning.
HU will look to break their losing streak with a neutral site home doubleheader against UMBC on Wednesday, April 2. The games will be played at Kiwanas-Wallis Park in Ellicott City, MD starting at 2:30 pm.
