WASHINGTON, DC --- James "J-Byrd" Daniel, one of the most celebrated freshmen players in recent history at Howard University, received yet another honor when he was named to the 2014 MEAC All Tournament team.

The 5-11, 165-pound freshman from Phoebus High School in Hampton, VA, led the Bison to a first round win over North Carolina A&T before falling to North Carolina Central in the second round of the tournament.

Daniel, the MEAC Rookie of the Year and a third team All-MEAC selection, scored a season-low nine points in the win over the Aggies, but his assist to teammate James "JT" Miller for a key basket and later a three-point basket that proved to be the difference in the victory.

Daniel scored in double figures in all but one game this season while also leading the conference in scoring and in three pointers made. He averaged 3.6 three pointers made per game to rank among the Top 10 in the country. His scoring average led the MEAC and ranked the highest among all freshmen in NCAA Division 1.

Daniel becomes the first freshman in school history to be named to the all-tournament team and the third to be named the Rookie of the Year.

He picked up yet another honor when he was named the College Sports Madness 2013-14 MEAC Freshman of the Year and to the second team, all conference.
