WINTER HAVEN, FL --- Day 2 of the annual Rebel Spring Games produced another pair of losses for the Howard softball team as the Lady Bison dropped decisions to the University of South Dakota and Siena College on Tuesday afternoon.
HOWARD 0 , USD 8 (5 inn)
Seniors
Ashley Turner and
Anasia Stinson each went 1-of-2 for the Lady Bison but HU would give up eight runs on seven hits, allowing South Dakota to score at least one run in all but one inning for before the game was called in the fifth.
HOWARD 6, SIENA 14 (6 inn)
The second matchup in as many days between the Lady Bison and the Saints was more of an offensive showing for both teams. Siena would score four runs through the first four innings but Howard would work to rally in the top fo the fifth.
Freshman
Imani Ballard helped junior
Jenny Ly score HU's first run thanks in part to an outfielder error by Siena. Sophomore
Sade Estes would ground out to short for a sacrifice RBI, driving in sophomore
Jasmine Gammons. The pair of runs would cut Siena's lead to 4-2.
Unfortunately, the Saint would tack on five runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 9-2.
Howard would give one more surge in the top of the sixth thanks to a four-run showing. Ly (RBI single), freshman
Breon Wise (RBI on error), Stinson (RBI sacrifice) and Ballard (RBI sacrifice) trimmed the Saints' advantage to 9-6.
However, the Lady Bison arms would give up another five run frame, pushing the lead to 14-6 and forcing the game to be called.Â
