Cynithia Smalls and
Courtland Lackey logged three goals apiece but it would not be enough as the Lady Bison fell to cross-town rival George Washington, 24-7, in the season opener for both programs.
Smalls, who led the Atlantic Sun in goals in and was fourth in goals per game in 2013, scored the first goal of the season for Howard with 19:53 left in the first half and added a pair at the 19:19 and 17:10 mark of the second.
Lackey contributed her scores near the end of each period (3:51 in first; 9:14, 3:57 in second) and tied for a game high with four ground balls.
Sophomore
Nychol Stephens also scored her first goal of the season, getting on the scoreboard for Howard's first goal of the second half. Stephens was the only goal scorer with an assist in the game.

Victoria Lockhart had the Lady Bison's other assists.
Goalies
Candace Ross and
Jasmine Wilson split time in net and stopped nine of GW's 33 shots on goal.
HU will look to enter the win column in its next game, a road matchup against Duquense University on February 16 at 4 pm.
