Women's Basketball To Compete in St. Mary's Concord Classic

MORAGA, CA --- The Howard women's basketball team will begin play in the Saint Mary's College Hilton Concord Thanksgiving Class this afternoon when the Lady Bison play the host Gaels at 5 p.m. Eastern / 2 p.m. Pacific. Howard will play a second game Saturday, November 29 against the University of Wyoming at 3 p.m. Eastern / 12 noon Pacific.

Howard (0-4) has struggled to open the season but has played admirably despite the injury absences of a pair of starters for each game (sophomores Jasmine Hill and Sydni Johnson) and a third, Victoria Gonzales, working her way back after missing preseason time and HU's first game at North Carolina.

While redshirt sophomore guard Te'Shya Heslip continues to lead the Lady Bison offense (14.3 PPG, 3.8 APG), the play of senior forward Cheyenne Brown has been a bright spot for HU. Brown currently holds a slight edge over Heslip in team scoring (14.5 PPG) and has led the team in points in every game outside of Heslip's 32 point performance against New Hampshire on November 15. Brown's scoring numbers have increased each of her four years as her role has increased: (0.8 PPG as a freshman; 1.3 PPG as a sophomore; and 8.6 PPG as a junior last season under Head Coach Tennille Adams).

The Lady Bison will face a team in Saint Mary's (2-1) that has won two straight Concord Classic tournaments and six of the last seven. The Gaels opened the year with a loss to Boston College, a game that SMC led by 13 in the second half and was tied at the final media timeout. SMC rebounded last week with wins against UC Davis 57-55 and Sacramento State 99-91.

In Wyoming, Howard will face a team that enters the Classic with a 2-1 mark after suffering a 77-66 loss in their last game against Idaho after winning its first two contests against Western State and Denver.
