Volleyball Sweeps MEAC Conference Weekly Awards

Shultis named Player of the Week; Broussard earns Rookie honors

NORFOLK, VA --- Junior setter Stephanie Shultis and freshman outside hitter Katherine Broussard gave Howard Volleyball a sweep of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) highest weekly honors, the conference announced today.

Shultis was named MEAC Player of the Week, while Broussard was named MEAC Rookie of the Week, her third consecutive honor from the conference this season.

Shultis tailed 160 assists, 26 kills and 20 digs in four matches during a 2-2 week and was named Most Valuable Player at the Ninth Annual Providence Friar Classic.

Broussard had a double-double of 12 kills and 12 digs in a win over St. Francis Brooklyn and registered 44 kills and 36 digs during last week's four game stretch against Manhattan, Morgan State, St. Francis Brooklyn and Providence.

This is the first time that Howard has swept the Player and Rookie of the Week awards since September 28, 2009, when Gazelle D'Artois (POTW) and Taylor Montgomery (ROTW) took the honors for the Lady Bison.

Howard has been honored four times by the MEAC this season, the most since 2009 when the program also earned four weekly awards. Broussard's three straight honors (POTW 9/9/13, ROTW 9/16/13, ROTW 9/23/13) match D'Artois' three straight POTW awards (POTW 9/28/09, 10/5/09, 10/12/09).
