BALTIMORE, MD --- The Howard University women's volleyball team extended its program-best opening stretch with a 3-0 showing at the UMBC Maddie Bingaman Tournament. The Lady Bison now sit at 8-3 and are sporting a six-game winning streak - tied for the longest in program history - Â thanks to wins over Loyola (Md.), St. Francis (Pa.) and New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).

In the first game of the tournament on Friday, freshman
Katherine Broussard nearly posted a double-double, logging 12 kills (with a .385 attack percentage) and eight digs to lead the Lady Bison to a sweep of the Greyhounds, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21. Junior libero
Allyson Lods matched Broussard's dig total with eight, while junior
Stephanie Shultis added 28 assists.
HOWARD 3, ST. FRANCIS (PA) 1
In the second game for HU on Friday, Howard and St. Francis battled in their first game before the Lady Bison prevailed, 25-23, in a game that featured six lead changes and 11 ties. The Red Flash would take Game 2, 25-18, but Howard would settle in and take the next two games, 25-12 and 25-17.
Broussard earned a double double in this match, with 11 kills and 14 digs. Lods led all players with a match-high 15 digs.
HOWARD 3, NJIT 1
The same theme from the St. Francis game would repeat itself in Saturday's match against NJIT, the teams' second matchup in the past week. Howard would take the first game (25-22), concede Game 2 (25-19), and take the next pair (25-18, 25-15).
Broussard and fellow freshman
Whitney Fields each notched a team-high 11 kills, with Broussard adding 12 digs. Shultis set up a match-high 40 assists and Lods recorded a match-high 18 digs.
Lods was named Co-MVP of the tournament, along with UMBC's Ali Goc, and Shultis earned a spot on the eight-player All-Tournament team.
