Bison looking to keep momentum going against Delaware State

WASHINGTON (September 30, 2026) – Howard University women's volleyball returns home Thursday (Oct. 1), hosting Delaware State University (DSU) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) matchup at Burr Gymnasium. Match time is set for 6 p.m. as the Bison celebrate Greek Night.

LAST TIMEOUT
 
On Sept. 27, Howard rallied from an eight-point deficit in the second set before defeating Morgan State, 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-15), in Baltimore.
 
Freshman outside hitter Addison Buckner (Menomonee Falls, Wisc.) led Howard with 16 kills while sophomore setter Alexys James (Houston) produced a double-double (21 assists & 13 digs) and three service aces. Junior right side Dayion Johnson (Jasper, Ala.) also delivered a strong performance with 13 kills while hitting .409.
 
Senior setter Sydnei Jones (Bridgeville, Pa.) recorded 20 assists and eight digs while junior libero Camryn Shelton (Charlotte, N.C.) anchored the defense with a team-high 20 digs. Senior middle blocker Zenai Jethroe (Dallas) added three blocks.

Howard enters Thursday's matchup with a 2-11 overall record (1-1 MEAC).
 
Buckner leads the Bison attack with 122 kills while Jethroe has a team-best 39 blocks. James leads Howard with 200 assists and 18 service aces while Shelton has posted a team-high 178 digs.
 
The Bison have reached the MEAC Championship match in each of the past two seasons, finishing as the runner-up in both appearances.
 
DELAWARE STATE
 
Delaware State enters Thursday's matchup with an 11-5 overall record (2-0 MEAC). The Hornets have won their last two matches, sweeping North Carolina Central and South Carolina State.
 
Gerren Tomlin leads Delaware State with 366 kills while Martyna Kmuk and Aaliyah Mitchell have 210 kills and 209 kills, respectively. Paige Ahakuelo leads the Hornets with 555 assists while Tomlin has also posted a team-high 58 service aces.
 
Delaware State enters the matchup hitting .194 as a team, averaging 11.8 kills and 2.4 blocks per set.
 
SERIES HISTORY
 
Thursday's contest marks the 33rd meeting between Howard and Delaware State since Sept. 2013. The Bison hold a 23-9 advantage and have won the last two meetings.
 
Howard swept Delaware State, 3-0, in the most recent matchup (Oct. 31, 2025) inside Burr Gymnasium. The Bison also defeated the Hornets, 3-2, in Dover (Oct. 3, 2025).
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Howard continues MEAC play Sunday (Oct. 4), traveling to Maryland Eastern Shore. Match time is set for 1 p.m., in Princess Anne, Md.
