Bison Look To End Slide Against Texas Southern

Brookings, SD---The Howard University men's basketball team will be looking to end its current five-game losing streak when it takes on Texas Southern University in the Progressive Legends Classic at Frost Arena at 6:30 pm.

Howard (2-5) is coming off a 77-65 loss to South Dakota State on Monday while the Tigers (2-5) dropped a close, 67-63 decision to Lehigh on Monday.

The young Bison battled and competed with the veteran Jackrabbits but foul trouble again became a factor.  South Dakota State, which has been in post-season play the past two years, won the game at the foul line where converted 86 percent.

Howard again got its usual scoring from freshman guard James Daniel and junior forward Prince Okoroh, who tallied 27 and 12, respectively, but no other Bison scored in double figures.

"We need to have someone else step up the scoring for us until Miller (James) and Carlton (James) get into the lineup," said Nickelberry.  Miller is recovering from a sore knee and has played in only two games and Carlton is a junior transfer who has to sit until late December.

In Texas Southern, Howard faces a team that is better than its record.  The Tigers start three seniors and two juniors.

"This Texas Southern team is a very talented team," said Nickelberry.  "But I am confident that we will meet the challenge."
