Kaban’s PK Lifts Howard Men’s Soccer Past Radford, 1-0

Bison earn first win of the season while snapping streak against the Highlanders

Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. — Howard University men's soccer earned its first victory of the 2026 season Saturday, defeating Radford, 1-0. The Bison's victory snapped a five-match losing streak against the Highlanders, marking Howard's first win over Radford since the programs first met.

Howard generated early pressure, recording its first shot less than two minutes into the contest when Zach Simmons (Rockwall, Texas) sent an attempt over the top. The Bison continued to threaten with Xavier Sharp and earned a pair of corners during the opening 20 minutes.

Radford created its best opportunity of the opening half in the 21st minute, but Liam Keiller (Gaithersburg, Md.) turned away Dax Booth's attempt to keep the match scoreless. Howard answered late in the half when Kamran Wimberly (Apple Valley, Minn.) put a shot toward the bottom-left corner, but Radford goalkeeper Ben Miller made the save.

The two teams entered halftime tied, 0-0.

Howard broke through just 2:22 into the second half. Kaban stepped to the penalty spot and converted the opportunity at the 47:22 mark, giving the Bison a 1-0 lead.

The Bison continued to generate chances while protecting the advantage. Simmons tested Miller three times in the second half, including attempts in the 57th, 60th and 73rd minutes, but the Radford goalkeeper kept each effort out. Xavier Sharp and Marshall Lloyd also forced saves during the final 15 minutes.

Radford nearly found an equalizer in the 76th minute when Jackson Boreham struck the woodwork. Keiller then came through with saves in the 75th minute and 81st minute, helping preserve Howard's lead.

Kaban led Howard with one goal on one shot, while Simmons paced the Bison with four shots, including three on goal. Sharp added three shots, with one on target, while Wimberly and Lloyd each recorded one shot on goal. In goal, Keiller played all 90 minutes and recorded three saves to earn the shutout.

Howard travels to Charm City Tuesday, Sept. 15, to face UMBC at 7 p.m.
