BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (September 12, 2026) -- Indiana University (IU) football showed why it is a contender for another national championship, posting a 55-0 shutout win over Howard University in a nonconference game at Memorial Stadium before a crowd of 54,376.

The Hoosiers (2-0), the 2025 defending national champions, dominated the game from start-to-finish by proving to be efficient in all phases of the game.

IU set the tone early by establishing its power running game to set up its pass game. Effectively moving the ball and keeping the Howard defense off balance with a short passing game.

Howard (1-2), meanwhile, could not get anything going, converting only 1-of-8 on third down conversions and being held to 57 yards of total offense in the first half.

"You can see why they have lost only two games in the past two years," said Howard head coach
Ted White, in his first season at the helm. "They are solid in all three phases of the game and they make you pay for your mistakes. They have a very good program and this is the kind of program we are trying to build here. It was a great opportunity for us. We will learn from this and move on."

Indiana on the effective running of Turbo Richard and Lee Beebe Jr., combined for 161 of the team's 179 yards on the ground. IU quarterback Josh Hoover took advantage by completing 6-of-11 passes for 146 yards and four TDs as the Hoosiers took a 41-0 lead to the locker room.

The Bison receive an early season bye before they travel to New Jersey to take Rutgers, another Big Ten opponents (Sept. 25). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
