Volleyball Gears Up for the Tiger Invitational

Bison prepare for another round robin tourney

WASHINGTON (September 10, 2026) - Howard University women's volleyball team heads north for the Tiger Invitational (Sept. 11-13), hosted by Towson.
 
HU battles Robert Morris (RMU) Friday (Sept. 11) at 2:30 p.m., followed by Arkansas Saturday (Sept. 12), beginning at noon. The squad rounds out with Towson Sunday (Sept. 13) at 2 p.m.

HOWARD
 
Howard (0-6) is looking to earn its first win at the Tiger Invitational after suffering a 3-0 loss against American University Tuesday (Sept. 8).
 
Zenai Jethroe (Dallas) leads the team with 24 total blocks (one solo) while Camryn Shelton (Charlotte, N.C.) recorded 81 digs so far this season.
 
In the past two years, HU has reached the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Championship match but came up short against rival Coppin State.
 
In his 15th season at the helm, Bison head coach Shaun Kupferberg took a program that was in disarray when he orchestrated one of the most dramatic turnarounds in school history, struggling through a 1-23 record his first season and posted a 21-11 mark the following year.
 
ROBERT MORRIS
 
Colonial Danny Doherty is in his fifth season at the helm and has been a member of the RMU coaching staff since 2011, originally starting as a volunteer assistant before being promoted to assistant coach two years later.
 
Robert Morris currently holds a 0-6 record so far this season and is looking to gain its first win of the tournament at Towson.
 
Junior middle blocker Keira Hornung was selected to the Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team following a strong weekend.
 
ARKANSAS
 
Arkansas (4-2) enters the weekend after a 3-1 road victory at Syracuse Wednesday (Sept. 9).
 
Parker Duncan leads the Razorbacks with 68 total kills, followed by Romani Thurman (58 total kills) and Laci Bohannan (49 total kills).
 
Jason Watson is in his 10th season with the Razorbacks, leading his teams to nine NCAA Tournament selections.
 
TOWSON
 
After starting 0-2, Towson (4-2) is on a four-match win streak, including a 3-0 win over Morgan State Sunday (Sept. 6).
 
Entering the season, Towson was projected to finish third in the league. Malinah Purcell-Telefoni was named to Preseason All-CAA Team.
 
Tiger head coach Don Metil is in his 14th season.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
The Bison faced a tough test at American Tuesday (Sept. 8), falling on the road, 3-0.
 
Howard saw strong contributions from rookie outside hitter Addison Buckner (Menomonee Falls, Wis.), who paced the Bison with 10 kills while senior setter Sydnei Jones (Bridgeville, Pa.) added 21 assists.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
On Sept. 17, the Bison come home to face crosstown opponent Georgetown. Match time is slated for 6 p.m., inside Burr Gymnasium.
