MIAMI (August 30, 2026) — Howard University senior forward
Alauna Rutland (Fairfax, Va.) scored HU's lone goal in the setback at FIU (Florida International), 5-1.
At the 51-minute mark, she found the back of the net off an unassisted goal.
FIU took a commanding 3-0 advantage into halftime after outshooting the Bison, 8-4.
After the break, Florida International's Maya Maxwell added her second score of the game to extend the margin.
Florida International kept the pressure on, closing the scoring at the 76-minute mark.
Only two Bison played all 90 minutes: Rutland and sophomore defender
Morgan Kennedy (Marina Del Ray, Calif.).

Trinity Knox (Atlanta) produced seven saves in a losing effort.
Howard continues its road swing Sunday (Sept. 6) at La Salle. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m., in Philly.
