WASHINGTON (August 20, 2026) – Howard University men's soccer team kept the high-powered Delaware (UD) Blue Hens off the board for more than 80 minutes, but a late goal in the waning moments downed HU in its season opener, 1-0.
At the 82-minute mark, Liam Penny scored the match-winning goal for UD, thanks to assists from Sean Smith and Luke Jones.
Delaware (1-0) kept the pressure on throughout, taking 33 shots (10 on goal), but the backline and senior goalie
Liam Keiller (Gaithersburg, Md.) gave HU a chance.
All-NEC selection
Daniil Kaban (Kharkiv, Ukraine) led the Bison attack with a team-leading three shot attempts.
Overall, eight Bison played all 90 minutes.
HU continues its road swing Blacksburg, Va., against Virginia Tech Sunday (Aug. 23). Match time is set for 4 p.m.
