EUGENE, Ore. (June 8, 2026) – The Black Student-Athlete Summit Leadership Team held the nation's premier event for all student-athletes and professionals in college athletics where several Howard University current and past student-athletes attended. The four-day (May 20-23) festivity was held at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore.
The Summit was designed to balance inspiration, education and connection across multiple days. Each day was centered around a distinct focus, such as education and academics, mental health and wellness, professional development and financial literacy and entrepreneurship. This gave attendees an opportunity to engage deeply with topics that support both personal and professional growth.
Bison in attendance included, but not limited to: two-time MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Champion
Jay Jones II (Charlotte, N.C.) from the football team and NEC Champions swimmers
Francoise Hall (Montreal, Canada) and
Jalen Stewart (New Castle, Del.) and
Rachel Suttle (Smyrna, Ga.) from the women's soccer team.
"The Summit was a chance to connect with other student-athletes across the country," said Suttle, who recently graduated with a master's degree in finance from the Howard School of Business. "It provided professional development and topics of your interest, exposing student-athletes to different business professionals while building a network."
Programming included main stage conversations, interactive sessions and experiential moments that encourage dialogue, reflection and relationship-building. The Summit was structured to create a cohesive and impactful experience that meets attendees where they are and supports them throughout their journey.
"As a student-athlete, you have access to a unique set of resources and opportunities," Suttle continued. "It is important to take full advantage of them while you are in school because there are many people who want to help you succeed. So, do not be afraid to ask questions, seek guidance and use your voice."
Notable guest speakers including former Bison standout
