ANNAPOLIS, Md. (April 12, 2026) – Howard University men's tennis team grabbed the upper hand early, but Navy rallied to win the match, 4-2, in Annapolis, Md.
HU took an early 1-0 match lead into singles competition.
Junior
Michael Major Jr (Nassau, Bahamas) and rookie
Nathan Bermeo (Durham, N.C.) served as the club's top doubles team, defeating Navy's Lachlan Buckinham and Ethan Garcia, 6-4.
Third-year Bison
Shawn Mitchell Yon (Queens, N.Y.) and freshman
Alexander Monagan (Natchez, Miss.) secured a doubles victory over Zach Quattro and Daniel Seo, 6-2.
Junior
Kendrick Lash (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and newcomer
Marcus Weekes (London, United Kingdom) were deadlocked in their doubles match, 5-5, before being ruled unfinished.
In singles play, Monagan won his contests in straight sets (6-3, 6-3).
Major dropped a tough singles match to Navy's George Cutone (6-7, 6-7).
Bermeo, Lash and Weekes all lost their respective singles matchups in three sets.
Monday (April 13), HU welcomes rival Morgan State to The District for a MEAC showdown. The regular season finale begins 10 a.m., at Banneker Recreation Center.
