Howard Men’s Tennis Falls to Villanova and Delaware on Road Swing

Newcomers lead Bison on the road

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Howard University men's tennis dropped a pair of matches over the weekend, falling to Villanova 5-2 on Friday evening before blanking Saturday afternoon's match 7-0 to Delaware.

Villanova 5, Howard 2

Howard earned two singles victories but ultimately fell, 5–2, to Villanova at the Villanova Tennis Complex.

Sophomore Kamran McIntosh-Ross (Atlanta, Ga.) delivered the Bison's first point of the match with a straight-sets win at No. 2 singles, defeating Quincy Jones, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Marcus Weekes (London, United Kingdom) followed with a gritty three-set victory at No. 3 singles, rallying past Will Monahan, 7-6 (10-8), 0-6, 6-4.

Junior Michael Major Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas), the reigning conference Player of the Week, battled in a tightly contested match at No. 1 singles but came up just short in a three-set decision, 6-4, 4-6, 5-7, against Cooper Gordon.

Howard dropped the doubles point, as Villanova claimed wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. The No. 1 doubles match featuring Major Jr. and McIntosh-Ross was left unfinished.

Delaware 7, Howard 0

Howard returned to action Saturday afternoon at the DuPont Country Club, falling 7-0 to Delaware.

The Blue Hens secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Howard's No. 1 doubles tandem of Major Jr. and McIntosh-Ross was tied when play was halted.

In singles play, Major Jr. opened at the top spot before Delaware's Tobey Lock earned the point following a retirement. McIntosh-Ross competed at No. 2 singles, while Weekes, Kendrick Lash (Winston-Salem, N.C.), Nathan Bermeo (Durham, N.C.), and Alexander Monagan (Natchez, Miss.) rounded out the Howard lineup.

The Bison return to action Saturday, Feb. 14, when they travel to Fairfax, Va., to face George Mason at 6:30 p.m.
