FAIRFAX, Va. — Howard men's tennis team fell 7-0 to George Mason Saturday afternoon at the Mason Tennis Complex. With the loss, the Bison move to 0-4 on the season, while the Patriots improve to 4-1.
Howard opened the match with a strong performance at No. 1 doubles as junior
Michael Major Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas) and sophomore
Kamran McIntosh-Ross (Atlanta, Ga.) secured a 6-2 victory over George Mason's Ekansh Kumar and Monil Lotlikar. The Patriots claimed wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn the doubles point.
In singles play, Major Jr. battled at the top spot, forcing a decisive third-set tiebreak before falling 6-4, 7-6 (10-1) to Deniz Okyay. McIntosh-Ross also pushed his match at No. 2 singles, capturing the opening set before dropping a tightly contested three-set decision.
Freshman
Marcus Weekes (London, United Kingdom) competed at No. 3 singles, while junior
Kendrick Lash(Winston-Salem, N.C.) played at No. 4. Junior
Shawn Mitchell Yon (Queens, N.Y.) fought in a three-set battle at No. 5 singles, and freshman
Alexander Monagan (Natchez, Miss.) rounded out the lineup at No. 6.
Howard returns to action Friday, Feb. 20, when the Bison host UDC at WTEF – East Capitol Campus in their home opener.
