Women’s Basketball Cruises to Easy Win Over South Carolina State

Bison extended its win streak to four

WASHINGTON (February 7, 2026) – Senior forward Zennia Thomas (Cleveland) poured in a team-high 20 points and just missed another double-double as the Howard University women's basketball team rolled to an 85-66 win over South Carolina State (SC State) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown at Burr Gymnasium.
 
The win was the fourth straight for the streaking Bison (17-7, 7-1 MEAC) while the Bulldogs (5-17, 2-5 MEAC) lost their fourth straight contest.
 
SC State was able to keep it close early, trailing, 17-13, at the end of for first quarter.
 
Then, Howard head coach Ty Grace went to bench as it paid big dividends as the reserves combined for 22 of the team's 32 second quarter points. Guards Destiny Bynum-Johnson (Newark, N.J.) and Emma Nuquay (Waldorf, Md.) and forwards Jada Kendrick (Thomson, Ga.) and Dally Moreno (Bronx, N.Y.) and all contributed as the Bison ran up a 49-24 halftime lead.
 
In the third quarter, Coach Grace went back to her starting lineup with the same results. Thomas continues to show that she is the best player in the MEAC, hitting on 6-of-9 from the floor while adding nine rebounds and two assists in just 22 minutes of playing time.
 
Freshman guard Ariella Henigan (Chicago), a candidate for MEAC Rookie of the Year, got into the act by tallying 12 points on 5-of-6 from the floor, along with three assists in 21 minutes.
 
Senior forward and preseason All-MEAC selection Nile Miller (Woodbury, N.J.) continues to have a consistent impact on the game, finishing with nine boards, seven points and three assists.
 
Bynum-Johnson added 11 points off the bench, including a season-best 3-of-6 from behind the arc.
 
Twelve different players scored for Howard.
 
For the game, Howard recorded 24 assists on 32 field goals, outrebounded the Bulldogs, 45-17 and connected on 32-of-60 (53-percent), including a season-high 10-of-16 (53-percent) from three-point range.
 
Howard remains unbeaten at home this season (8-0).
 
SC State was led by by Iemyiah Harris, who led all scorers with 23 points, and reserve Shaunice Reed, who finished with 16 points off the bench.
 
NEXT UP: Howard travels to Dover, Del., to take on the Hornets of Delaware State Thursday (Feb. 12) at 6 p.m.
