Stewart, Bynum Johnson Lead Women’s Hoops to Road Win at DSU

Bison push win streak to six

DOVER, Del. (February 12, 2026) – Redshirt junior guard Zoe Stewart (Terre Haute, Ind.) scored a team-high 17 points, reserve junior guard Destiny Bynum-Johnson (Newark, N.J.) contributed a season-high 16 points and senior forward Zennia Thomas (Cleveland) added 14 points for good measure to help the Howard University women's basketball team pull away to a 68-51 win over Delaware State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) clash at Memorial Hall.

The win is the sixth straight for the streaking Bison. The Hornets (4-20, 1-8 MEAC) dropped their fourth straight.

The two had met back on Jan. 8 in Burr Gymnasium and Delaware State battled the Bison early before falling, 73-63.  This was almost a carbon copy as the Hornets got some early three-point shooting and managed a 17-16 lead at the end on one quarter.

It was Stewart and Bynum Johnson that proved to be the difference as Howard began to take control and took a 34-29 lead to the locker room at intermission.

One of the leading scorers in the conference at 12.2 points per game, Stewart had one of her better all-around games this season, scoring on a variety of outside shots and transition baskets as the Hornets had troubles keeping. She finished on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 from three-point land.

Bynum Johnson was brought in by Howard Coach Ty Grace to provide three-point shooting, a staple of the program over the years under her time at Howard. But Bynum Johnson struggled at times and her adjustment proved to be more even challenging when she suffered an injury and had to sit out five games, including the game in D.C., against Delaware State.

Whether it was the Hornets scouting report that did not factor her or it was a breakout game, Bynum Johnson scored 12 of the team's first 18 points, including 2-of-2 from deep. She also contributed by converting 6-of-7 from the free throw line and added four rebounds and three assists for good measure.

Then came the third quarter, which has been a strong suit for the Bison this season. Howard opened a 51-36 lead at the end of three quarters.

Thomas, the MEAC leading scorer (15.5 points per game) and rebounder (7.7 per game) finally got free from some of the attention that she was getting from the Hornets and any snuffed out any hopes that the Hornets had for an upset. Thomas scored 12 of her points in the second half and added eight rebounds and two blocks to her stat sheet.

The team's top defensive player, senior forward Nile Miller (Woodbury, N.J.), added seven points, six rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot to the team win.

Over the six-game streak, Howard has averaged points while limiting opponents to an average of 57 points. This game was a carbon copy and appears to be the formula for consistency.

Defensively, the Bison limited the Hornets to shooting for the game, including 7-of-25 for 28-percent from downtown. They scored 16 points off 13 Delaware State turnovers.

Offensively, Howard shot 24-of-49 from the field and a season-best 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, courtesy of Stewart and Bynum Johnson, who went 4-of-5 from three-point range.

NEXT UP: Howard faces Maryland Eastern Shore in a huge matchup Saturday (Feb. 14) at 2 p.m., inside Burr Gymnasium. The Hawks handed the Bison their only conference loss back in January.
