WASHINGTON (February 6, 2026) - As we approach perhaps the biggest sporting event on the Planet Sunday (Feb. 8), Super Bowl LX (60), Howard University will be well represented. Whether is it in the media or officiating, the Bison will play a role.
Â
Greg Steed,
Badi Cross and
Brea Costanzo will be there.
Â
GREG STEED
Â
Steed is a 1993 HU alum who will serve as the back judge for the officiating crew. Steed is no stranger to the big event as this will be his third Super Bowl.
Â
Steed is a history maker. Widely respected in the profession, he was a member of the first all-Black officiating crew that worked Super Bowl LIV (54) in 2020.
Â
"I am so amazed at how good our officials are," remarked
Roger Goodell, longtime NFL Commissioner. "We spend time all week looking at various angles and still debating it a week later. These guys have to make a split-second decision. The men and women on our field are incredible. I think that they have proven over and over again they are really wonderful at what they do."
Â
BADI CROSS
Â
Cross is one of the up-and-coming line of media professionals who have represented the University as a media professional. The list includes
D. Orlando Ledbetter,
Stan Verrett,
Steve Wyche,
Gus Johnson,
Bruce Speight,
Tyler Dragon and
Jim Trotter to name a few. A 2024 graduate of the University, Cross is relatively young in a profession that relies heavily on veterans.
Â
"As a Howard alum, I take a lot of pride in being able to represent HBCUs on a stage like the Super Bowl," Cross stated. "It also fills me with a lot of pride to be able to share the same space with greats like Steve Wyche and D. Orlando Ledbetter, who are giants of the football media industry, along with many other HBCU alumni I have met who are working the game."
Â
A native of Portland, Ore., Cross got his start working with the sports information office under
Derek W. Bryant, carrying out a number of duties and covering athletics' 21 sports. Cross earned his bachelor's in media, journalism and film while minoring in Spanish.
Â
He was so prepared from his experience with HU Athletics that he was hired straight out of Howard to work with communications with the Detroit Lions last year. It was big career boost for him as the Lions had their most successful season in years and Cross was there to play a part in it.
Â
It did not go unnoticed. The New England Patriots came calling and Cross was hired in August 2025 to work with communications.
Â
Cross duties include facilitating media requests, creating and maintaining social media for the team and preparing the press box for home games.
Â
Noted Cross of his first Super Bowl experience, "Working the Super Bowl with your team in the game is the experience every person working in the NFL hopes for. It is something I am beyond grateful to be able to experience as many of my peers may never get to do so in their careers."
Â
BREA COSTANZA
Â
Costanza's story is even more compelling. A junior sports management major from New Castle County, Del., Costanza has served as executive assistant and operations assistant with the Howard football team for the past two years. Her duties included day-to-day operations of the program, assisting with logistics and execution of operations for game day and numerous other duties essential to the program.
Â
"I am a direct product of Howard Football — the staff, the culture and the standard of excellence set every day," Constanza expressed. "In the past year, I have spent more days with Howard Football than away from it and that consistency has shaped and molded me into the kind of professional I want to be and has in turn given me the opportunity to act as the professional I am. At Howard, you will get so many opportunities put in front of you, but it is truly up to you to decide how far you want to take it."
Â
Her work did not go unrecognized. She was so impressive that she was recommended to be a part of the inaugural class of the "Select 25 Teammates" program on behalf of the NFL Operations to work the Super Bowl. The program is an effort to bring together emerging talent to intentionally develop the NFL talent pipeline and to provide the educational opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience.
Â
"A year ago, I was imagining what it would feel like to work the Super Bowl," said Constanza. "Now, I am actually doing it. I know for a fact this would not have been possible without the Howard football program. Not only does it develop athletes and men, but it is a community where students can learn and develop."
Â
She talks about the opportunity afforded her.
Â
"This opportunity is bigger than me — it is about showing what Howard University and HBCUs produce. It is a culmination of doing a lot with a little. It took less than a handful of people to give me an opportunity and guidance and these are the results. To Howard Football, I am especially grateful to Michela Brown-Mayfield, David Davis, Janice PettyJohn,
Lailah Robey and Larry Scott for their guidance and belief in me."
