Trio Leads Men’s Hoops in Victory Over Bears

Bison dominate Morgan State in Baltimore

BALTIMORE (February 28, 2026) --The trio of guards Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.), Cedric Taylor III (Atlanta) and Ose Okojie (Brampton, Canada) combined for 63 of their team's points as the Howard University men's basketball team (19-10, 9-3 MEAC) dominated Morgan State University, 84-59, in an important Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown at Hill Field House.

The win gives HU a four-game win streak while the Bears (12-15, 8-4 MEAC) fell a game behind the Bison with two remaining in the regular season.

It was close early as there were four ties and four lead changes in the first eight minutes before Howard took control for good, opening a 30-22 halftime advantage.

From there, Morgan State, which had won seven-of-its-last-eight contests had no answers for the productive trio.

Harris, the leading candidate for MEAC Player of the Year, had yet another outstanding performance that has become a standard. The 6-foot-4 graduate tallied a game-high 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting while grabbing 11 rebounds for another one of his double-doubles. The unselfish Harris picked up three assists and a block along the way.

Taylor, who is without question one of the premier players in the conference, did not have a particularly good effort. Statistically, he was 8-of-22 from the floor, but he still found a way to impact the game with 21 points while also recording a double-double with 11 boards.

Okojie has been known for his elite defensive prowess. But in this his senior year, he has come on strong offensively of late after missing most of the past two seasons with concussion issues. In addition to his sterling defense in this game, and we will get to that later, the long, athletic Canadian scored 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting while also helping on the glass with six rebounds and getting three steals.

The Bears came into the game as one of the highest scoring teams in the MEAC during their current run, averaging over 86.0 points during that stretch. But the Bison, who have played extremely well since their one-point heartbreaking loss to the Bears at Howard earlier this season (Jan. 31), made a concerted effort to shut down the Bears and their high-octane offense.

Aldred Worrell Jr., came into the game as the conference's leading scorer, top three-point shooter and rated as one of the MEAC's most prominent players over the past eight games. But the underrated Howard defense made sure that Worrell and company would not duplicate their efforts this time. He was forced into 0 for 13 from the floor, including 0-of-7 from the three-point line, finishing with six points.

Rob Lawson, who played a major role in the Morgan State win in January, came into the game averaging over 12.0 points per game. But the Bison defense also held him check, forcing him into a 2-of-12 shooting night.

For the game, defensively, the Bison held the Bears to 11-of-34 shooting (34-percent), including 1-of-10 from beyond the arc. They also held a whopping 56-41 rebounding advantage, forced 17 turnovers and won the battle in the paint, 46-26.

Offensively, Howard connected on 53-percent of its shots in the second half, 14-of-17 from the free throw line and recorded 17 assists on 30 field goals.

It is important to note that junior guard Cam Gillus (Falls Church, Va.) again showed why he is one best point guard and facilitators in the MEAC. He finished with seven points, seven assists and only two turnovers in 35 minutes of play.

NEXT UP: Morgan State travels to Norfolk, Va., to take on Norfolk State in another important game Monday (March 2) at 6 p.m. The Bears still have a shot at the regular season title. They close out the season at South Carolina State Thursday (March 5) at 6 pm. Norfolk State is also in the hunt for the regular season currently tied with Morgan State.

Howard, who will be looking for its 20th win of the season, hosts Coppin State in its final home game of the regular season Monday (March 2) at 7 p.m., inside Burr Gymnasium before closing out with a game at Norfolk State Thursday (March 5) at 7:30 p.m.
