Men’s Basketball Continue to Roll

Bison push streak to five after cruising past Eagles

WASHINGTON (March 2, 2026) -- The Howard University men's basketball team continued its recent dominance with all five starters scoring in double figures as they rolled to a 90-70 win, leaving no doubt.

It was the final home regular season game for the streaking Bison, who have now won five straight, eight-of-the-last nine contests and currently sit alone atop the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) standings (10-3) with one game remaining before tournament time.

Howard (20-10, 10-3 MEAC) jumped to the early 9-0 lead before Coppin State (7-23, 5-8 MEAC) knew what it hit them.

Graduate guard Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) led all scorers with 14 points at the break. Senior guard Ose Okojie (Brampton, Canada) and junior guard Cedric Taylor III (Atlanta) each tallied 12 points before entering the half.

The Bison led, 46-29, at intermission.

The party would continue as junior guards Cam Gillus (Falls Church, Va.) and Alex Cotton (Carrollton, Texas) got in on the action.

For the record, Taylor led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He also grabbed five rebounds, dished out five assists, three blocks and a steal.

Okojie scored 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Cotton, the team's long-range bomber, tallied 16 points on 5-of-10 from the three-point line.

Harris, a leading candidate for MEAC Player of the Year, matched Cotton with 16 points on a 7-for-13 effort, along with three assists and four blocks.

But the memorable story of the night was the performance from Gillus. The junior guard from Sidwell Friends High School in D.C., and transfer from Lehigh recorded only the second triple-double in school history with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists, along with four steals. Former Howard player Blake Harper did one last season.

The Bison shot a sizzling 54-percent (31-of-57) from the floor, including 11-of-25 (44-percent) from beyond the arc. In what must be especially pleasing to the Howard head coach Kenneth Blakeney and his staff was the unselfishness displayed as the Bison had 26 assists on 31 baskets.

Defensively, the Bison won the battle on the boards, 35-22, while forcing the Eagles into 17 turnovers that they converted into 23 of their points. And oh, by the way, they blocked seven shots, two off the season- high.

It is important to note that Howard has outscored its last five opponents by a whopping average of 26 points.

Coppin State got 20 points from DeMariontay Hall, 15 points from Jamari Percy and 11 points from Favour Aire off the bench.

NEXT UP: Howard faces rival Norfolk State Thursday (March 4) at 8 p.m., inside Joseph G. Echols Gymnasium. A win would give HU the outright regular season title and a first round bye in the MEAC Tournament, March 11-14, at the Norfolk Scope Arena.
