RICHMOND, Va. — Howard University women's tennis team fell 5-2 on the road to VCU Saturday morning at the Thalhimer Tennis Center, marking the Bison's fifth straight setback to open the 2026 campaign.
Howard moved to 0-5 overall, while VCU evened its record at 4-4.
VCU claimed the doubles point after securing victories at No. 3 and No. 1.
At No. 1 doubles,
Camille Hall (Bowie, Md.) and
Imani Jean (Brooklyn, NY) dropped a 6-2 decision.
The No. 3 tandem of
Lauren Oliver (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and
Selah Stibbins (Minneapolis, Minn.) fell 6-1.
The No. 2 pairing of
Franchesca Brown (Atlanta, Ga.) and
Dana Hall (Miami, Fla.) was locked in a competitive battle, trailing 5-2 when the match went unfinished following the clinch.
Howard responded with two singles victories.
At No. 2 singles, Brown delivered a resilient three-set win, defeating her VCU opponent 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 after battling back from a first-set deficit.
Oliver added another point at No. 6 singles, earning a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory in straight sets to round out the Bison scoring.
Jean competed at the top flight (No. 1), falling 6-3, 6-0.
Hall pushed her No. 3 singles match to three sets after taking the opening frame 6-4, but ultimately dropped the final two sets (3-6, 1-6).
Dana Hall fell in straight sets at No. 4 (6-2, 6-2), while Stibbins dropped a tight first set at No. 5 before falling 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).
Howard will look to regroup and secure its first win of the season in its upcoming slate.
