ORLANDO, Fla. – Howard University men's tennis fell to North Carolina Central, 6-1, Tuesday morning at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
Howard (0-5) was unable to secure the doubles point, dropping all three matches to open the day. The duo of junior
Michael Major Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas) and sophomore
Kamran McIntosh-Ross (Atlanta, GA) competed at No. 1 doubles, while junior
Kendrick Lash (Winston-Salem, NC) paired with freshman
Marcus Weekes (London, United Kingdom) at No. 2. Freshman
Nathan Bermeo (Durham, NC) and junior
Shawn Mitchell Yon (Queens, NY) rounded out doubles play at the No. 3 position.
In singles competition, McIntosh-Ross delivered the lone victory for the Bison at the No. 2 spot. The Atlanta native battled through a three-set match, earning a hard-fought win in a super tiebreak to secure Howard's only point of the contest.
Major Jr. competed at No. 1 singles, while Weekes pushed his match to three sets at the No. 3 position. Yon (No. 4), Lash (No. 5) and freshman
Alexander Monagan (Natchez, MS) at No. 6 rounded out the singles lineup for the Bison.
Despite the final score, Howard showed resilience throughout singles play, with multiple matches extending into competitive sets against a balanced N.C. Central squad.
The Bison return to action on March 25th at 12 PM when they take on the Longwood Lancers in Takoma Park, MD.
