WASHINGTON (February 14, 2026) – Junior guard
Cedric Taylor III (Atlanta) poured in a game-high 22 points and graduate guard
Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) and reserve sophomore forward
Travelle Bryson (Anderson, S.C.) added 17 points and 16 points, respectively, to lead the Howard University men's basketball team to a 79-53 win over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown at Burr Gymnasium.
HU has won four-of-their-last-five games while the Hawks, who defeated the Bison, 65-57, in Princess Anne back on Jan. 10, has now dropped five straight contests.
Taylor has been on a tear of late and continues to show why he is one of the premier players in the conference, connecting on 6-of-13 from the floor, including a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line, a team-high six assists and a steal. He has now hit 28 straight free throws without a miss.
The Bison were able to take a 41-30 lead in the first 20 minutes, courtesy of 52-percent (14-of-27) shooting from the floor.
Harris, the MEAC Player of the Year frontrunner, hit on 7-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-5 from downtown, while displaying his all-around talents with four rebounds, four assists, four steals and four blocks.
Bryson has also played well of late, including today's win, hitting on 6-of-13 from the field, including two dunks that had people coming out of their seats. The high riser also found to contribute in other ways with seven rebounds and two assists.
Following the Bison's disappointing overtime loss (87-81) to a very good Yale team at home Monday (Feb. 9), Howard could have gone in the tank. But this team continues to play good team defense, distribute the ball and utilize its talent to the fullest.
Junior guard and floor general
Cam Gillus (Falls Church, Va.) finished with eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Sharpshooting junior guard
Alex Cotton (Carrollton, Texas) also made his presence felt for the Bison with nine points, all coming from beyond the arc, and two steals.
For the game, Howard won the rebounding battle, 36-26, and second-chance opportunities, 14-4, and converted 19 UMES turnovers into 26 points. On the offensive side, the Bison committed only eight turnovers and credited with 22 assists on 27 baskets.
The Hawks were led by reserves Trey Brown and Christopher Flippin with 14 points and nine points, respectively.
NEXT UP: The Hawks take on Norfolk State Monday (Feb. 16) at 7 p.m. The Bison have little time to rest, traveling to Dover to take on the Hornets of Delaware State Monday (Feb. 16) inside Memorial Hall. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
