Kenneth Blakeney (Duke, '95), who is in his seventh season.
THE SERIES
UMES defeated Howard, 69-57, in Princess Anne early this year (Jan. 10), snapping a six-game losing skid to the Bison. In that game, the Hawks had four players reach double figures, led by senior forward Dorion Staples with 16 points. Sophomore forward
Travelle Bryson (Anderson, S.C.) led Howard with 18 points.
The Bison have won six-of-the-last-eight matchups in the series, holding a 19-11 advantage, dating back to 2006.
LAST TIMEOUT
UMES
The Hawks (8-17, 4-4 MEAC) have dropped four-in-a-row, including a 79-71 decision at Morgan State Saturday (Feb. 7). UMES had four players in double figures, led by Staples and senior guard Michael Teal with 16 points apiece.
HOWARD
On Feb. 9, the Bison had victory in hand, leading, 71-68, with 1:23 remaining in regulation, but a second chance opportunity resulted in a Jordan Braithwaite three-pointer that sent the game into overtime and propelled Yale to an 87-81 win over the Bison in a thrilling nonconference game at Burr Gymnasium.
Junior guard
Cedric Taylor III (Atlanta) finished with a game-high 18 points despite playing only 28 minutes due to foul trouble.
