COLLEGE PARK, Md. (January 18, 2026) – Howard University women's tennis team dropped its season opener Sunday afternoon at Maryland (UMD), 7-0.
In singles competition, third-year Bison
Lauren Oliver (Winston-Salem, N.C.) dropped a hard-fought three-set match to the Terps' Gabriela Pimentel (7-5, 2-6, 7-10).
Fellow classmate
Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) represented Bison Nation in the No. 1 singles slot where she fell to UMD's Emma Ghirardato in straight sets (2-6, 2-6).
Maryland won the other four singles matches in straight sets.
In doubles play, Jean and newcomer
Camille Hall (Bowie, Md.) competed as the squad's top doubles team where they lost to Maryland's Ghirardato and Ema Kovacevic, 0-6.
UMD won another doubles contest to take a 1-0 edge into singles competition.
Friday (Jan. 30), HU (0-1) meets Mount St. Mary's in its home opener at The Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's East Capitol Campus.
