Women’s Swimming & Diving Cruises to a Pair of Victories

Bison defeat VMI and Saint Francis

LEXINGTON, Va. (January 16, 2026) — Howard University women's swimming & diving team competed in a tri-meet Saturday afternoon, defeating Saint Francis, 215.5-63.5, and host VMI, 187-109, in Lexington, Va.
 
Senior Samyra Benoit (Santa Clarita, Calif.), junior Chanice Posada (Houston), sophomore Gabrielle Vickles (El Dorado, Trinidad & Tobago) and freshman Brooke Whitt (Chicago) opened the afternoon with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay, clocking in at 1:44.75.
 
Individually, Posada took home three gold medals in the 100 Fly (55.96), 100 Back (55.35) and 50 Fly (25.14).
 
Whitt won a pair of races in the 50 Breast (30.03) and 100 Breast (1:05.89). Fellow classmate Kaelyn Mitchell (Mobile, Ala.) also competed in the same events, taking bronze in both races with marks of 31.02 and 1:08.29, respectively.
 
Senior Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) and rookie Alyssa Napier (Wilmington, Del.) finished first (23.62) and second (23.88), respectively, in the 50 Free. Nwaeze also won the 100 Free with a 50.63 time.
 
Third-year Bison Myeisha Sharrieff (Bermuda) and sophomore Francoise Hall (Montreal, Canada) placed first (27.31) and third (29.14), respectively, in the 50 Back.
 
Senior Kali Garcia (Altamonte, Fla.) and rookie Julianna Gibson (Elk Grove, Calif.) claimed gold (5:11.55) and bronze (5:20.86), respectively, in the 500 Free.
 
Freshman standout Zenya Posada (Norwalk, Conn.) grabbed the top spot with a 1:55.77 mark in the 200 Free.
 
Newcomer Mia Patton (Nassau, Bahamas) and senior Skylar Debnam (Chandler, Ariz.) placed second (10:48.04) and third (10:48.67), respectively, in the 1000 Free.
 
Freshman Faith McCallister (Abington, Md.) took silver in the 200 IM (2:13.83).
 
Benoit, Sharrieff, junior Jasmine Morgan (Chicago) and sophomore Seannia Norville-Smith (Nassau, Bahamas) closed out the day with a second-place finish in the 200 Free Relay (1:40.13).
 
On the board, junior Jala Wilson (Richmond, Va.) won bronze in the 3-meter dive with a 181.35 score.
 
On Jan. 31, HU faces Catholic on Senior Day. First race is scheduled for 1 p.m.
