Men’s Soccer Falls on the Road at No. 16 Duke

Bison blanked, 8-0, by Blue Devils

DURHAM, N.C. (September 23, 2025) – Howard University men's soccer (1-6-1) faced a tough challenge Tuesday night as No. 16 Duke (4-0-3) defeated the Bison, 8-0, at Koskinen Stadium.

Duke struck early, finding the back of the net in the third minute on a close-range finish by José Ortega.

The Blue Devils would go on to score three more times before the halftime whistle with goals in the 22nd, 25th and 32nd minutes, pushing the lead to 4–0.

Despite Howard's efforts to stay organized defensively, the Blue Devils' pace and movement in the attacking third proved difficult to contain.

The second half saw Duke maintain its momentum, adding four more goals to close out the match.

A pair of strikes within the first 10 minutes of the half quickly stretched the deficit, 6–0, followed by another tally four minutes later in the 56th minute. Howard conceded the eighth and final goal on a penalty kick converted in the 73rd minute.

The Bison were limited offensively by a disciplined Duke defense, finishing the match with two total shot attempts and no shots on target. Goalkeeper Liam Keiller (Gaithersburg, Md.) made eight saves on the night, facing a relentless 29-shot attack from the Blue Devils. Despite the score line, Keiller's performance included several key stops that prevented further damage.

The Bison return to the pitch Sunday, September 28, at 6 p.m., when they travel to take on the newest addition to the conference, the New Haven Chargers.
