NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (September 21, 2025) – Howard University women's soccer battled the Central Connecticut State (CCSU) Blue Devils to a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon at the CCSU Soccer Field.
The Bison moved to a 2-4-2 overall record (0-0-1 NEC) on the season following their first conference matchup while CCSU went to 0-4-3 (0-0-2 NEC).
The Blue Devils opened the scoring early in the first half, capitalizing on a quick attacking sequence. In the 11
th minute, CCSU's Kayla Ward found the back of the net off an assist from Leah Howe, giving the home side a 1-0 advantage.
Despite the early setback, Howard's defense held firm under pressure with goalkeeper
Trinity Knox (Atlanta) making big saves to keep the deficit low.
Howard generated multiple opportunities in the opening half but struggled to break through CCSU's backline.
Shots from
Gabriella Garcia-Terrell (Centreville, Va.) and
Imani Kissi (Dublin, Ohio) tested the Blue Devil in goal, but the Bison were unable to level the playing field before halftime, trailing 1-0 at the break.
Howard's attempts proved fruitful in the second frame. Just under four minutes into the half, Garcia-Terrell delivered the equalizer. The sophomore forward tied the board in the 49
th minute, finishing off a well-worked build-up to level the match, 1-1. The goal marked Garcia-Terrell's fourth of the season.
The Bison continued to apply pressure with multiple chances from
Samantha James (Herndon, Va.) and
Asia Mickens-Perez (Upper Marlboro, Md.) narrowly missing the target.
On the defensive end, Knox remained steady in goal, finishing the match with four saves, just two shy of her 200
th career save.
Despite several late opportunities, Howard was unable to net a golden goal, ending the match in a draw.
Howard dominated large stretches of the second half, outshooting Central Connecticut State, 16-6, in the period and 21-12 overall. The Bison held a 9-5 edge in shots on goal and earned seven corner kicks to CCSU's three.
Howard returns to action Thursday (Sept. 25) at 7 p.m., when they host Wagner College on Youth Night.
