Women’s Soccer Drops Final Nonconference Matchup Against La Salle

Garcia-Terrell scores equalizer, but not enough

WASHINGTON (September 14, 2025) - Howard University women's soccer (2-4-1) fell, 2-1, in a nonconference matchup to La Salle (3-3-1) Sunday afternoon.

The Explorers opened the scoring 23 minutes into the match when a blocked shot quickly turned into another opportunity for La Salle. Taking advantage of the empty goal, the Explorer inside the box played clean up, taking another shot to the low right of the net. The 1-0 lead carried into halftime as the Bison held La Salle in place.

The HU defense tightened up in the second half, allowing only three shots by the Explorers before Gabriella Garcia-Terrell (Centreville, Va.) scored the equalizer in the 75th minute.

With three minutes left in the game, the Explorers converted a penalty kick into a game-winner with a shot to the low right side of the goal.

Rachel Suttle (Smyrna, Ga.) led Howard's attack, putting two shots on target while Trinity Knox (Atlanta) made six saves in the full 90 minutes of play.

The Bison return to the pitch Sunday (Sept. 21) at 2 p.m., when they open conference play with a matchup against Central Connecticut State on the road.
