WASHINGTON (August 28, 2025) – Howard University women's soccer team got back in the win column, holding off crosstown rival American (AU), 2-1.
With the victory, HU moved back to .500 (2-2) on the young season while Eagles continue their search for win No. 1 (0-3-1).
Junior midfielder
Asia Mickens-Perez (Upper Marlboro, Md.) got HU on the board with an unassisted goal (12'), 1-0.
After taking a narrow lead into halftime, graduate defender
Rachel Suttle (Smyrna, Ga.) recorded her second goal of the season, thanks to an assist from third-year midfielder
Samantha James (Herndon, Va.), 2-0.
Down, but not out, AU refused to go away. At the 74-minute mark, Jennifer McGuire produced her second goal of the year and cut the margin to one, 2-1.
Despite American outshooting HU in the second half, 8-6, two-time NEC Goalkeeper of the Year
Trinity Knox (Atlanta) and backline withstood AU's late fury to secure the victory. The Atlanta native finished with a match-leading four saves.
The physical showdown saw 25 fouls and two yellow cards.
Howard returns home versus Richmond Sunday (Aug. 31) at 1 p.m., inside Greene Stadium.
