Men’s Soccer Falls in Home Opener

Keiller records 50th career save

WASHINGTON (August 24, 2025) – Two second-half goals from San Diego State (1-1) proved to be difference in Howard University men's soccer (0-2) home opener, falling, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in Greene Stadium.

The matchup proved to be more physical than both squad's season openers. Coming out with tenacity, the Aztecs garnered a pair of fouls early on before closing the first half with four.

Fighting for their first win of the season, both teams ended the half in a 0-0 stalemate.

In the 47th minute, Zach Simmons (Rockwall, Texas) corralled the ball from the Aztec forward before taking it down the right side of the field. Chipping it to an oncoming Christian Rufael (Washington), the Bison saw their strongest opportunity end shy of the goal as the keeper came out for the save.

Back-to-back shots in the 58th minute almost resulted in the lead for San Diego State, but the second chance shot went high-right of the goal.

With 20:20 left to go in the match, a free kick resulted in a 1-0 advantage when an Aztec got a header on the incoming ball.

A corner kick widened the gap, 2-0, seven minutes later with a low shot in the right corner.

Naim Robinson (Detroit) led the Bison attack with two shots.

Playing all 90 minutes, redshirt sophomore Liam Keiller (Gaithersburg, Md.) notched his 50th career goal while recording seven saves.

The Bison are back on the pitch August 29 at 7 p.m., when they face Navy on the road.
