WASHINGTON (August 23, 2025) – Howard University women's soccer team earned its first win of the 2025 season in commanding fashion, defeating Hampton University, 4-1, at Audi Field in the inaugural HBCU Invitational. Now, HU hits the road looking for their first winning streak of the year, facing Alabama A&M (AAMU) Sunday (Aug. 24) for 2 P.M (ET) / 1 P.M. (CT).

HOWARD
HU (1-1) bounced back from its season opener setback with a dominant display under the lights of Audi Field.
Reigning NEC Rookie of the Year
Gabriella Garcia-Terrell (Centreville, Va.) was named Match MVP, scoring two second-half goals, including a 65
th-minute penalty kick. Her first tally came just three minutes into the second half, assisted by reigning NEC Midfielder of the Year
Samantha James (Herndon, Va.).
The Bison opened scoring in the 40
th minute when
Sinclaire Green (Ellicott City, Md.) registered her first collegiate goal to give HU a 1-0 halftime lead.
Minutes later,
Rachel Suttle (Smyrna, Ga.), the reigning NEC Defensive Player of the Year, added her name to the scoresheet with her first goal of the year at the 54-minute mark.
Howard outshot Hampton, 18-12, and controlled the tempo throughout the match.
In net, 2024 NEC Goalkeeper of the Year
Trinity Knox (Atlanta) shut out the Lady Pirates through 70 minutes before subbing out.
ALABAMA A&M
AAMU is seeking its first win of the season (0-3). In their three losses, the Bulldogs have been outscored, 7-0.
Entering the season, Alabama A&M was projected to finish fifth in the SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) with four Bulldogs named to the preseason team: Czaske Deane; Anita Frederick-Sigaran; Albany Rios and Meghane St.-Cyr.
Sunday's showdown in Huntsville begins a three-match home stand.
LAST TIME OUT
On Aug. 14, HU fell to North Florida in the season opener, 2-0, but rebounded strong in D.C., for their first victory of 2025 against Hampton, 4-1 (Aug. 17).
