WASHINGTON (August 22, 2025) - Howard University football finished its fall camp and now locked in on the season opener against Florida A&M at the 2025 Orange Blossom Classic in Miami Gardens, Fla.
Â
The Bison enter the year with confidence after a productive camp that coaches and players said was filled with energy, focus and improvement.
Â
The coaching staff praised the returners and newcomers on how they stepped up and handled the long days of practice. The mixture of experienced leaders and fresh faces has created strong competition at every position, something Howard believes will pay off once the season begins.
Â
The Bison return several key players, who are expected to make a big impact.
Â
On offense, preseason All-MEAC First Team selection running back
Eden James (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) spearheads the ground attack while veteran wide receiver
Breylin Smith (Lakeland, Fla.) provides a reliable target downfield. Redshirt junior
Tim Artis Jr. (Cornelius, N.C.), preseason All-MEAC First Team honoree, returns as a leader on the offensive line, giving the unit strength and stability.
Â
Defensively, the Bison bring back important pieces across the field.
Â
Senior
Noah Miles (Tampa, Fla.), a 2025 STATS Perform FCS Preseason All-American, serves as the backbone for the defensive line while senior linebackers
Judah McJimpsey (Spartanburg, S.C.) and
Cam Dyson (Wayne, Mich.) add toughness and leadership in the middle. In the secondary, redshirt junior defensive backs
Kaleb Gallop (Portsmouth, Va.) and
Kedrick Green (Winston-Salem, N.C.) will play crucial roles in shutting down opposing team's air attack.
Â
Along with the returners, Howard added several new players, who have impressed throughout camp. The combination of depth, leadership and fresh energy gives the Bison high hopes heading into the season.
Â
The first test comes quickly when Howard takes on Florida A&M Saturday (Aug. 30) in one of the biggest HBCU football events of the year. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m., at Hard Rock Stadium. The showdown is a rematch of the 2023 Cricket Celebration Bowl where FAMU edged out HU, 30-26, in Atlanta. The Bison see this game as a chance to showcase their growth and set the tone for the season.
Â
For now, the team leaves fall camp with momentum and belief. The goal is simple: turn the hard work of August into success on the field this fall.
