WASHINGTON (July 7, 2025) – In June, the Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) announced its five members of Team Bahamas where Howard University standout
Michael Major Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas) was among the honorees. The squad competes in the prestigious Davis Cup, set for Aug. 4-9 in Trinidad & Tobago.
The Davis Cup, often called the World Cup of Tennis, is the premier annual international men's team tennis competition, organized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). Over 150 countries compete annually in this prestigious team event.
A year ago, Major made the All-MEAC Second Team after winning eight singles matches in the No. 1 singles slot. Academically, the Bahamas native earned a spot on the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Tennis All-Academic Team after accumulating a 3.0 or better grade point average.
Team Bahamas consist of Major, Denali Nottage, Donte Armbrister, Kofi Bowe and Captain John Antonas.
They will play in the Americas Zone Group IV, highlighting 10 nations with two pools of five teams. The promotion playoffs feature the top two teams in each group. Nations finishing third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the pools will compete in the positional playoffs. Two nations will be promoted to the Americas Zone Group III for 2026.
This year's field includes Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Cuba, Guatemala, Haiti, Panama, St. Lucia, Suriname and host nation Trinidad & Tobago and the US Virgin Islands.
Major and the Bison continue their pursuit for a MEAC title in spring 2026.
