CARY, N.C. (April 24, 2025) – Howard University men's tennis squad saw its title run end Thursday afternoon, dropping a 4-1 decision to rival Morgan State (MSU) in the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Quarterfinals in Cary, N.C.
Senior
Marcel Dawson (Columbus, Ga.) and All-MEAC selection
Michael Major Jr (Nassau, Bahamas) represented Bison Nation in the top doubles slot, taking down MSU's Makkijha Brown and MEAC Player of the Year Mikeal Carpenter, 6-3.
MSU took the early match lead into singles competition despite the setback, 1-0, winning the other doubles matches, 6-4.
In singles play, MEAC Rookie of the Year
Kaosie Nwokedi (Charlotte, N.C.) defeated Brown in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).
Dawson and second-year Bison
Mitchell Yon (Queens, N.Y.) saw their respective singles matches declared unfinished despite having a lead in the final frame.
Morgan State (8-15) won the other three singles contests in straight sets and moves on to Friday's (April 25) semifinal round versus top-seeded South Carolina State.
